Guest Post: 5 Precious Tips to Help You Get Better at Wedding Planning - Helen Clark

It’s finally here – the day you’ve been dreaming of your whole life is here and I’m sure you can’t be happier. When all that enthusiasm wears off, you should start to feel panic, because no matter how long you’re planning and daydreaming about how everything will look like, you’re never too ready.
The thing is that not everything depends on you – in order to do this project, you need to work with many other people and that means working with their schedule, too. There’s no time to waste, really, so check out the following tips.

Start in Time

If you’re prone to procrastination and you’re leaving everything for tomorrow, you can’t possibly expect that you’ll have your perfect day. Therefore, if it’s important that you to get involved in every aspect of the planning process and if you want things done in a certain way, you need to think ahead and start with the rough tasks at least a half a year in advance.

Write Things Down

I know you must think how nothing can slip your mind because every detail is of crucial importance, but you’ll be proved otherwise sooner than you think. Your days will be filled with meeting various people and making different arrangements with each of them individually, and all of them will have their own demands. This isn’t something you can remember easily – even Rain Man would have difficulties here.

You Can’t Please Everyone

Unfortunately, a wedding isn’t just about the two people getting married, your parents and your partner’s parents will want to have their say, and I can assure you that there will be at least one situation when you all have a completely different solution for the same problem.
When that time comes, it’s quite important to remind yourself that you can’t please everyone, nor should you try to do so. Do your best to meet the needs of those whose opinion you appreciate, but don’t even try to go over the borders of reason, because you will lose your mind.

Surround Yourself with Professionals

Most brides get so frustrated that they all end up with the same thought in their minds – if you want something done, do it yourself. However, I must disappoint you because the truth is that you’re not a professional caterer and you probably don’t have enough experience in photography, and even if you do, you can’t be at several places at once.
You’re a bride and that’s what you need to do, which is why you need to surround yourself with a team of professionals. Your priority is getting a photographer who has years of experience with weddings and who can offer you professional video editing services. This is something you shouldn’t be cheap about, because it’s the one thing you won’t be able to fix – bad wedding photos can’t be fixed.

Don’t Deny Help when Offered

Now, this is a double edged sword – many people will offer you help and you should definitely take it, but you need to make sure that your assistants are capable of doing the things you ask from them properly. Otherwise, you’ll just end up correcting their mistakes and that means no beauty sleep for you.

One last piece of advice – keep your eyes on the prize. That month before the actual date will be very frustrating and you will be under a lot of stress, but you should remind yourself why you are getting married; your partner and you are celebrating your love for each other in front of everyone you hold dear, and that’s all that matters.
