WNS: Behind the scenes in the creation of Vanessa Williams 14-carat-gold-plated Wedding Invites

Find below excerpts from an interview with Adorn Invitations on creating the invites:

How did Vanessa find out about Adorn Invitations?

With many of our invites being featured on Pinterest, Vanessa found our designs to be very creative and a good match to what she imagined.

The first steps…

She had a basic idea, a super lavish ‘Carmen Marc Valvo’ dress and an Egyptian theme (Vanessa and Jim, both from Buffalo NY actually met randomly in Egypt hence the theme). The rest was pretty much left up to us, to pitch our ideas on colour themes, invitation design and beyond – including some of the décor like Peonies flowers, laser cut golden cupcake holders, gold glimmer table cloth covers etc. We got along really well and our ideas resonated with her and inspired lot of what transpired in her wedding décor. She really loved our idea of combining Marsala highlight (colour of the year) with gold, and our idea to laser cut the pattern matching her wedding dress.

What was included in the designs?

Vanessa stationery set included a wedding invitation card, RSVP cards, security information card, accommodation information, custom envelopes for invitations and reply cards and place cards.

The invitation enclosure was laser cut from a gold, shimmery metallic paper (curious metallic range) and the Marsala colour printed with gold stamp foiling being applied for the luxurious effect. Vanessa also liked the idea of a special embellishment being applied on the invitations.

The most special element of the design

During the process we figured out that a lotus flower has a special meaning in her relationship with Jim. It symbolises luck, and has a meaning in new age spirituality. So, we designed and laser cut a 14 carat gold plated lotus flower – these were then hand applied for a perfect finish for her invites.

Envelopes were custom printed in matching Marsala colour, with gold foiled inner lining with matching pattern to the laser cut.

The result?

Vanessa and Jim absolutely adored our invites; this is what she had to say:

“Thanks for such extraordinary work in creating a beautiful piece of art.
The invites were a huge hit with our guests!”

We fell in love with invites (and with Vanessa’s blessing) we will put her invitation design into production later this year and make it affordable to everyday couples – less the 24 carat gold plated décor!

Timeframe

Most of the time was spent on idea generation and design process, just over couple of months. Once we nailed down all the elements and sent Vanessa physical prototype mock-up to seek her final approval, the physical production (that involved precision laser cutting, offset printing, gold stamp foiling, and hand assembly) has taken under 3 weeks.

About working with Vanessa

This is the first time we worked with celebrity of such calibre, and found the experience to be a wonderful one. She was so down to earth, and motivated by our ideas that it was a pure pleasure to work on her designs (and not having a set design budget was a bonus as well!).
